AI Video vs Stock Footage: Which Should You Use?
Stock footage and AI video solve the same problem in different ways. Stock gives you real, proven footage that someone else may also be using. AI gives you something specific to your prompt that nobody else has, with less predictability.
Control. With stock you choose from what exists. With AI you describe exactly the setting and mood you want, but you may need several attempts to get it. If a specific scene does not exist in stock libraries, AI is often the faster route.
Originality. Stock clips appear in many videos. AI clips are generated for you, so your video does not look like everyone else's. That matters for ads where a recognisable stock clip can hurt credibility.
Reliability. Real footage is photographic and physically accurate. AI video can show artefacts such as odd hands or drifting objects. For anything where realism or exact product detail is critical, use real footage.
Cost and speed. A stock licence is a fixed cost per clip. AI costs credits per generation and you may spend several to get a keeper, but there is no search time and no licence to manage.
A practical approach is to combine them: real footage of your actual product, and AI for backgrounds, mood scenes and concepts that would be expensive to shoot. Add consistent captions and an end screen and the mix looks like one piece.
